About Cindy… I am a full-time education administrator currently employed by the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB). I am also the co-chair of the United Way committee of WRDSB. I have successfully found someone to co-chair for the 2011-2012 pledge year which is fantastic because then I can retire without guilt! Succession planning on its way.
I recently completed my seventh year as an administrator working with special needs students in programs such as youth custody, mental health, behaviour, enrichment, developmental education and a maternity home. I am on the executive for the CTCC Administrators’ Association of Ontario as a member-at-large.
I also am a freelance writer. I write feature articles for magazines and newspapers, opinion pieces, and book and other reviews. While my published works are primarily non-fiction, I am also intrigued by writing short stories and longer fictional pieces. I have completed one novel for ages 8-12 and have started another for young adults.
I also teach part-time for Queen’s University, Kingston, ON. I have taught an additional qualifications course for teachers entitled Behaviour–Special Education. I have also taught Special Education Parts I and II.
My husband, John, and I are proud parents of three very terrific children: Cory, Kathleen and Carolyn. Cory and Kathleen are university students and Carolyn just completed her first year as a full-time secondary school teacher. The school is located in the North West Territories.
We live in a rural area of southern Ontario. As a family, we enjoy spending time at a 100 acre ‘farm-cottage’ in south Bruce Country, Ontario.
Fitness is very important to me, to find balance and love of life. I participate in bicycle riding, aquatics, Zumba and Bolliwood, Wii fitness, yoga, hiking, cross country skiing and snow shoeing. I wish I had time for more fitness.
I love to garden, water colour paint and piece random pieces of fabric to build small quilt projects. I am intrigued by the patterns seen in nature, fabrics, art, language and life in general. I am really looking forward to a new room that is being made at the cottage, soon to be our ‘home’. It’ll have an area for writing, crafting (quilts) and painting. This room boasts three windows to the outdoors as well as one that looks down into the great room. Lots of natural light.
We also like to travel. A while back we visited sunny Cuba with the family to celebrate our thirtieth wedding anniversary and last summer we sorjourned to the North West Territories. We will be going to Quebec City this summer and to Punta Cana this winter.
